Gino Pozzo – Watford FC

European football enthusiasts continue to rave about Gino Pozzo. The owner of the English Watford Football Club has received a lot of praise recently for taking mediocre teams to the top of their respected leagues.

Gino Pozzo was born in Udine, Italy to football fans Gianpaolo and Guiliana Pozzo. Gino’s football fandom grew with his relation to the presidents of the Udinese Calcio football club. The Pozzo family continued their loyalty to the club throughout Gino’s life.

Gino received a Masters Degree from Harvard University upon moving to the United States when he was 18. He spent the next 20 years in Barcelona, Spain after marrying. After acquiring a football club at Vicarage Road, he relocated to London with his family to be closer to the daily operations of the club.

The Pozzos are globally recognized for being one of the most passionate families among football club owners. The legacy began in 1986 when Gino’s father bought the struggling Udinese football club in his country of Italy. The Pozzos also own an electrical appliances business, are involved in business mergers, and ran a now-sold woodworking business as well as owning a sports club.

Gino is largely credited for the success of the Pozzo-owned football clubs. While taking the reigns at Udinese F.C. and turning around the struggling club, he was also responsible for the success of Granada F.C. after acquiring the club with debt reaching €12 million and the club having a miserable run in a lower division. Under the direction of Gino, Granada F.C. made the Primera Liga.

After acquiring Watford F.C. in 2012, the Pozzos became the first family to own three football clubs at once. In 2015, all of Gino’s work came to fruition when all of his teams competed in the top leagues of their countries.
